The Laois Athletics Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships provided a great mornings entertainment and competition.
Now in it’s 22nd year, the event is going from strength to strength.
Held once again on the grounds of O’Dempseys GAA Club in Killenard, there was great running across all 4 age-groups.
Ten Laois secondary schools were represented, and there was great competitive running for the 6 Individual Medals, and the 3 sets of team Medals on offer.
There was a special welcome for Dunamaise College, a new secondary school attending their first Laois Athletics Schools event.
Heywood Community School was probably the leading school, winning team medals in 5 races, along with 15 Individual Medals. It’s no surprise considering Breda McDonald (of Irelands Fittest Family fame) is their teacher and athletics coach.
Colaiste Iosagaín ( 9 Individual Medals and 4 Teams), St Marys CBS (7 Individual and 4 Teams), Scoil Chriost Rí (4 Individual Medals and 5 Teams) and Rathdowney (4 Individual Medals and 4 Teams) also had big numbers of strong runners.
