The draws for the Laois GAA juvenile hurling and football championships were made in the Midlands Park Hotel last week.
The competitions are following the same pattern as last year in all cases except U-13 in both codes and the minor ‘A’ football championship.
In U-13, it has been decided that all of the teams who looked to play ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ were seeded based on league results by the Games Development Officers and then drawn together in the same competition.
In football, there are four groups with six teams. The top two teams go to ‘A’ quarter finals, third and fourth to ‘B’ quarter finals and fifth and sixth to ‘C’ quarter finals.
The four clubs who entered two teams in the U-13 grade will be in a separate development competition on an home and away round robin basis with the top two teams contesting the final.
In U-13 hurling, 16 teams entered and they were seeded in the same manner as the football. Once again first and second go to ‘A’ quarter finals while third and fourth go to ‘B’ quarter finals.
In the minor ‘A’ football, nine teams entered so the format is based on something similar to the senior football championship with a backdoor system in operation.
Shield competitions will operate in all grades except for minor.
