Frustration expressed over delay in new school building for Portarlington

Local TD Fiona O’Loughlin has expressed her frustration over what she says is the lack of progress being made for the new school building for Coláiste Íosagáin, Portarlington.

The Fianna Fáil TD is a current TD for South Kildare which will include Portarlington following boundary changes.

Deputy O’Loughlin states that she has been working with the Principal and Board of Management to ensure that the school finally gets its new school building.

O’Loughlin said: “I previously brought party leader, Micheal Martin to meet with the principal, teachers and pupils to see first hand the conditions these fantastic teachers are working in and the lack of facilities available to students.

“Since then, I have raised the matter with the Minister to ensure that the Department do not delay.

“It is extremely disappointing that the Department have not actively engaged with the design team to agree professional fees for their future works on this and the quantity surveyor has not been paid for his work to date.

O’Loughlin concluded, “I have written to the Minister in regards to this matter and I hope that he can encourage the department to progress this project.”
