Traffic congestion in Portlaoise as huge crowds arrive for O’Moore Park double header

Laois fans are being advised to park well away from O’Moore Park this afternoon as a huge crowd has turned up for today’s double header.

GAA chiefs are expecting around 14,000 spectators to attend the double header involving the Meath and Clare followed by Laois and Dublin.

The All-Ireland Round 4 football Qualifier is underway in O’Moore Park at present between Meath and Clare with Dublin and Laois to follow at 4.15pm.

The second game is an All-Ireland Preliminary Round Hurling Qualifier so it is something of an odd double header as it involves four counties in different codes.

At present, Gardai have closed the roads around O’Moore Park with cars parking as far away as the Clonminam Business Park.

The traffic is heavy now but it is likely to become even worse around 4pm as Laois and Dublin fans arrive while Meath and Clare fans leave.

With the nature of this double header, the likelihood is that the majority of the Meath and Clare fans won’t stay for the hurling so they will be trying to leave Portlaoise as Laois fans enter.

So the advice really for Laois fans is to get there early and park a good distance away in order to avoid being late.
