Rosenallis 3-19 Mountrath 0-6
Laois Shopping Centre S’A’HC Quarter Final
Rosenallis swatted aside the challenge of Mountrath with ease to advance to the semi finals on the Senior ‘A’ hurling championship in a sodden O’Moore Park this afternoon.
It rained that hard at times that puddles actually appeared on the pitch but Rosenallis won’t care one bit as they won to set up a semi final date with Colt.
Their win means that The Harps will face Ballyfin in the other semi final in two weeks time.
This game was over at half time as Mountrath only registered one score in the first half and Rosenallis took a 13 point lead into half time.
A Jimmy Hyland free was the best Mountrath could muster as Rosenallis picked them apart with ease.
Conor Cosgrove, Fiachra C-Fennell, John Lennon, Ronan Murray and Brian Fitzpatrick all hit a point each while the accurate Paddy Keating helped himself to six.
They also got a goal too which was created by the meandering run of Donnagh Callally and brilliantly finished off by Brian Fitzpatrick from close range to leave them 1-11 to 0-1 up at the break.
Rosenallis began the second half with another Keating free but Mountrath equalled their first half tally soon after through Jimmy Hyland.
But Rosenallis got the next three points via Fitzpatrick, Cosgrove and sub Joseph Keating to move 1-16 to 0-2 clear after 40 minutes.
Brandon Russell grabbed just Mountrath’s third point of the evening but they trailed by 16 points with 15 minutes to go.
Late goals from Paddy Keating and keeper Stephen Kelly – his from the penalty spot after Brian Fitzpatrick was fouled – made things even worse for Mountrath as they went down by 22 points in the end
