Shinty U-21 glory for Keyes’ Ireland against Scotland

Laois’s James Keyes is celebrating as he and his teammates led Ireland to U-21 Shinty glory against Scotland in Abbotstown this afternoon.

The Colt youngster was to the fore as his team came from behind to defeat Scotland.

The visitors led 4-1 to 1-9 at half time but Ireland completely took over on the resumption of play.

They scored four goals in the opening ten minutes of the second half and, try as they might, Scotland just couldn’t comeback.

Scotland only managed a solitary point in the second period as Keyes’ Ireland went on to win 7-11 to 4-2 in the end.

There was not such good fortune for the Ireland senior team who lost heavily to Scotland.

The side, which contained Castletown’s Ryan Mullaney and Clough-Ballacolla’s Willie Dunphy, lost out 5-11 to 0-4.
