Laois women win FAI Women’s Cup with Wexford Youths this afternoon

Three Laois women have won the Só Hotels FAI Women’s Cup, defeating Peamount United this afternoon – and it was a Graiguecullen woman who claimed the winning goal.

Captain Kylie Murphy slotted home the winning goal in the 64th minute for the Wexford side to see the reigning champions take back the title once again.

Orla Casey and Caoimh Gray (formerly Dollard) were also part of the squad who came away with a 3-2 win in the Aviva Stadium.

Portlaoise’s Caoimh Gray joined the side this year and has previously served as a GAA goalkeeper for the Laois Ladies for an incredible 10 years. She was also previously involved in the Irish setup from U15 up to U19.

Kylie Murphy hails from Graiguecullen and is the Wexford Youth captain for the eighth year in a row.

Abbeyleix star Casey is just 19 years old and alongside Gray and Murphy, won last year’s Cup final with the squad.

Wexford Youths got off to a great start this afternoon in a thrilling game. They proved to be the better side when Lauren Kelly kicked two goals followed up by Murphy.

A brilliant win with superb Laois representation – well done girls!
