Portarlington Leisure Centre honoured with prestigious award

Portarlington Leisure Centre have been awarded ‘Overall Best Leisure Centre in Ireland’.

The Leisure Centre received the award at this year’s National Standards Awards after being awarded the top level grade of ‘outstanding’.

The award follows their ‘Best Leisure Centre in the Midlands’ award they won in 2018.

Portarlington Leisure Centre, was officially opened in 1974 and is now managed by Kerry man Sean Quirke, brother of Laois football manager, Mike.

In 2007 it was officially transformed into Portarlington Leisure Centre.

Astroturf pitches were added to the centre in 2012 which lead to  the decisions and development which helped the swimming pool thrive and eventually, become award winning.

The Astroturf facility proved hugely in demand and added €40,000 revenues a year to turnover.

Loans of €125,000 went into making this the facility it is today and it will surely continue to go from strength to strength.
