This was a harrowing incident which took place at the beginning of December.

Gardai have launched an investigation after an elderly Laois man was the victim of a vicious assault.

The sickening attack happened at his home last Thursday, November 28, in the Ballylinan area of Laois at around 6.15pm.

The man, who is aged in his 70s, was attacked by four men who forced their way into his house.

According to Extra.ie, the gang tied the man up using a dog leash, hit him with a crowbar and then ransacked his home.

The media outlet reports that they stole €4,500 in cash from his home and then drenched his house in bleach in a bid to destroy any DNA evidence.

After the gang left, the man eventually managed to free himself from the dog leash and then went to a neighbour’s house where he raised the alarm.

Gardai confirmed the attack to LaoisToday and say they have launched an investigation.

They say: “Gardaí are investigating an incident of aggravated burglary which occurred in a house in the Ballylinan area, Co. Laois on Thursday, 28th November 2019 at approximately 6.15pm.

“Four males forced their way into the home of a male, aged in his 70s, and proceeded to inflict a number of injuries on the man.
