Third drug-related death from Tullamore hostel tragedy as Gardai search premises in Laois and Offaly

A male in his early 20s from Portlaoise has become the third drug-related death from a homeless hostel in Tullamore – with Gardai now commencing searches at properties in Portarlington and Tullamore.

The man in his early 20s, who has been named locally as Aaron Ging, had been receiving medical attention in a critical condition at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore. He passed away on Thursday afternoon.

His death follows the previous deaths of Angeria Kelly, a Portlaoise woman in her 40s, and Amy Mannix, a woman in her late teens, who was originally from Kerry.

Ms Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene while Ms Mannix died later in hospital.

A male in his  early 30s, who had been receiving medical attention at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, has been released from medical care.

This morning, Gardaí in Tullamore investigating these unexplained deaths have commenced searches at locations in Tullamore and Portarlington.

Local Gardaí are supported by Laois-Offaly Divisional Drugs Unit, Regional Armed Support Unit, and Garda Dog Unit.

For operational reasons An Garda Síochána is making no further comment at this time.

The Clonamore House hostel in Tullamore is used by Laois, Offaly and Westmeath county council to house people who need emergency accommodation.
