HSE confirm new case of Coronavirus detected in Portlaoise Hospital

Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise

The HSE have confirmed that a patient in Portlaoise Hospital is being treated for Coronavirus.

Prior to today, the last confirmed Coronavirus infection at the hospital was on Wednesday June 10, according to HSE figures.

However, the Covid-19 Daily Operations Update shows that this new case was confirmed on Sunday July 19.

The patient is in the hospital’s ICU and was diagnosed at 2pm on Sunday.

In Laois, the last time we had a confirmed case of any description was on June 20.

The figure in the county has stood at 265 ever since but a change in the official figures is unlikely for a few days due to the time lag.

It is also possible that this patient is not actually from Laois and may just be being treated here.

Nationally, there are just 12 confirmed cases in hospitals with the Mater having the most with six.

Sligo has two while Galway, Tallaght, Waterford and Portlaoise all have one each.
