Laois Brother to host virtual ‘Coping With Covid-19 Workshop’

A Laois Brother is set to hold a virtual ‘Coping With Covid-19 Workshop’ for men that will take place over two days later this week.

Bother Kevin McEvoy, who hails from Rosenallis, is hosting with MALEs Ireland (Men As Learners and Elders) which is an organisation that deals with men’s spirituality.

The theme of the workshop is “Aonar domsa idir dhaoine” which translates to “Alone am I among people”.

Brother Kevin said: “We really are living in a time of true liminal space where we do not know from one day to the next what way our lives will change. It is a time the world has not seen before.

“With all of our modern communication devices, we are constantly being fed with facts and figures that our spiritual digestive system has little or no need of.

“It is not nourishing and we are desperately crying out for something that can ground us and give us a truer meaning to and in our lives.

“With this in mind, we heartily invite everyone to our men’s workshop on dealing with Covid-19 which will begin on Friday, November 13, beginning at 7pm and will conclude on Saturday, November 14, at 7pm.

“We are delighted that one of our own from our weekly Zoom meetings, Jordan Hamilton from California, will facilitate this workshop.

“This online Gathering will be a unique time for men to meet face to face (virtually) and to speak their truth from the heart about their lived Covid experience and in turn to hear the truth of other men also at the level of the heart in a space that will be both sacred and confidential.”

During the online gathering, men will have opportunities to engage in:

  • Contemplative Sit
  • Ritual
  • Council Groups
  • Wandering
  • Solitutide
  • Deep sharing
  • Journalling
  • Dream Invocation

Brother Kevin said: “Please join us in this unique event in the hope that you too, with our great Irish poet John O’Donohue, will discover “That deep in this black hole you will find the blue flower that holds the mystical light which will illuminate in you the glimmer of springtime.”

“Go to the website to register for this event. Registration for this event is essential and will close on Wednesday November 11 at 12 midnight.

“A suggested donation of €40 (more if you can afford it and less if you can’t) can be paid through the M.A.L.E.s Ireland bank account while registering.”

MALE’s (Ireland) was founded in 2004 to help men reawaken to their own masculinity, to their deep spirituality and to discover what it means to be a man today.

It was founded in response to Fr. Richard Rohr’s OFM vision for men that he developed through his work with men since 1987.

He maintains that “none of our current social or social issues are going to change until the ordinary male matures spiritually”.

At the meetings, men are helped to a new consciousness of themselves, of their giftedness to others and of their responsibilities to family and the community.

They are helped and supported when one is confronted by suffering, loss, death, failure and changes in cultures.
