A new Farmers Market will take place in the SOLAS Eco Garden Centre, Dublin Road Business Park, Portarlington from 10am to 2pm this Saturday, June 19 (and every Saturday there after).
David Maher of the new ‘SOLAS Eco Garden Shop’ explained: “We are so excited about this new addition to our garden centre.
“We have created a purpose built ‘Container Street’ food market that will offer a vibrant, new and exciting range of organic and natural foods.
“The streetscape itself is magical – constructed entirely out of recycled 40ft containers.
“There is huge untapped resource of quality local food producers here in the Midlands and it wonderful to be able to give them a showcase for their produce.
“So far we have met with over 25 different local food producers and believe we will have a full street come Saturday morning. The Irish Times have confirmed they will also be attending so it wonder to get some positive national coverage for Portarlington.
Products available on the day will include:
- Local organic Fruit and vegetables, Thai vegetables
- Jersey Organic milk and a range of cheeses
- Local Honey, blueberry tonic
- Cakes, confectionary and chocolates
- Bread, organic flour and oatmeal
- Organic Pork and Beef
- Poultry and Eggs
- Locally roasted gourmet coffee
- Fresh Fish
Maher continued: “We hope to turn the SOLAS (https://ecogardenshop.ie/) into the top garden and food destination in Ireland and we believe a central part of this ambition is the involvement of local food producers and the community.
“We also busy preparing for our official launch on Wednesday, June 23, which will involve Midlands 103 roadcaster, the national media and hopefully some TV coverage.”
