Portlaoise Institute offering excellent progression options with huge range of courses

Portlaoise Institute

At Portlaoise Institute there is a huge variety of QQI Level 5 courses available each September.

Their website www.portlaoiseinstitute.ie provides you with a flavour of student life there and the opportunity to view the array of options available.

All courses are outlined on this website along with modules, progression options and contact details of each course coordinator who are available and happy to answer any queries you may have.

All courses are one-year full-time courses, running from September until May.

Portlaoise Institute provides a unique further education environment for all our students – both younger students just after completing their Leaving Certificate and also for more mature students returning to education.

Deputy Principal Keith McClearn stated “Students who complete a Further Education course with us can gain direct employment or use their course as an alternative route into Third Level college courses by meeting the QQI/FET entry requirements.

“At Portlaoise Institute we believe that students who complete one of our courses, either as a young school leaver or as a more mature student, are more resilient, more informed and possess a greater knowledge of future options and career opportunities.

“This ultimately results in college completion rates far higher for Portlaoise Institute graduates than students who go directly to Higher Education/University after doing the Leaving Certificate.”

Keith continued to say “Lastly if you choose Portlaoise Institute this year you will be challenged and encouraged and will have the opportunity not just to discover what your talents are but also to use those talents and develop them to their optimum.

“We offer you a team of top class committed, dedicated teachers whose prime concern is to help you achieve your dreams, and achieve them you will, don’t take my word for it, here is what some of our past students say and some examples of where our students have progressed to.”

James Conroy: Nursing Studies student 2019-2020 and Student of the Year.

“I really enjoyed my time at Portlaoise Institute and the Nursing Studies course.

“Of course I’m delighted with the final QQI results – 9 Distinctions.  Furthermore, I have been offered a place at UCD College Dublin for a BSc degree in General Nursing, which I have accepted and currently in my first year there, which to date is going really well.

“I’ve been allocated work placement at St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin as part of my degree programme for the next 4 years.

“I am really looking forward to the adventure ahead. This of course would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the professional tutoring received and valuable experience/ knowledge gained from my time at Portlaoise Institute.

“I have to thank all the staff and management at Portlaoise institute for all the valuable experience and knowledge gained from my Nursing Studies course, this helped me immensely in securing a place at UCD”

“Applied Social Studies in Portlaoise Institute was a fun as well as challenging course.

“This course opened my mind on new ways of understanding people with disabilities as well as different cultures. I have since gathered full time employment within a residential setting, working with children with disabilities.

“This course helped me understand the area of work and gather better knowledge on the importance of society and their point of view.

“I would highly recommend this course to everyone who has interest in social care and wants to expand their knowledge within the area.”
