Goals win games as Emo go past mis-firing Rosenallis to reach SFC quarter finals

Emo 3-5 Rosenallis 0-9
Laois SFC Round 3

Goals from Padraig Kirwan, Jack Owens and Paddy Hosey did the trick for Emo as they qualified for the SFC quarter finals.

Rosenallis scored just nine points and finished the game with 14 wides in a disappointing display.

They were met by a stubborn Emo defence, with Shane Murphy playing as a sweeper, forcing them to shoot from distance time after time.

Emo on the other hand were far more clinical as David Gorman kicked them into the lead before Padraig Kirwan’s solo goal gave them a nice cushion.

It took Rosenallis 13 minutes to score via Eoin Dunne but Paddy Hosey instantly replied to leave it 1-2 to 0-1 at the first water break.

The game was even enough after that as both sides scored three points each.

Rosenallis had a big goal chance midway through the half when Emo keeper Niall Gorman spilled a Colm Poole shot and it came out to Paddy Keating but he struck the post.

Emo led 1-5 to 0-4 at half time and although Eoin Dunne landed a free on the resumption, the gap was six after 33 minutes.

Jack Owens caught a long ball and popped it off to Paddy Hosey who delightfully clipped it past the advancing Donal Lalor.

Rosenallis hit back through Paddy Keating but their wide count had climbed to 13 after 40 minutes.

And the game was over on the stroke of the half time when Jack Owens swiveled on edge of the square and smashed the ball into the roof of the net to leave it 3-5 to 0-6.

Rosenallis went in search of goals but all they could manage was frees from Charlie Friel and Eoin Dunne as Emo prevailed.
