No scrooges in Portlaoise Institute as Christmas fundraiser a success for two charities

Portlaoise Institute Fundraiser (1)

Student Council Members at Portlaoise Institute have put their shoulders to the wheel during the festive season and fundraised for the Children’s Health Foundation and also Portlaoise Action To Homelessness.

The Student Council met early in November to brainstorm charities to donate to and possible fundraising events that could be organised.

The first fundraiser was a Christmas Jumper Day that was held on December 7 and 8 in aid of The Children’s Health Foundation.

Both staff and students donned the festive jumpers over two days and donated €2 towards the charity.

Over the two days there were prizes awarded to students for the best Christmas Jumper and €255 was raised for The Children’s Health Foundation.

The second fundraiser that the Student Council decided to run was a Food Drive in aid of Portlaoise Action to Homelessness.

The objective of this fundraiser was to collect enough food to fill one supermarket trolley kindly donated by Tesco’s Portlaoise.

This initiative was very well received by students and staff with many making donations.

Student Council members Conor Wall and Simon Fennelly were instrumental in the success of this fundraiser. They contacted local businesses informing them of the initiative and many businesses kindly donated food supplies and vouchers.

All of the donations and contributions meant the initial goal of filling one trolley with donations was easily surpassed.

Well done to all students and members of the student council for organising two excellent fundraisers.
