11 arrests and 45 charges as Gardai in Laois carry out searches under Operation Thor

11 people were arrested and 45 charges were handed out following searches by Laois Gardai recently.

These took place on July 19 and 20 and were part of Operation Thor.

The 11 people were charged with offences including robbery, burglary, theft, theft from shops, criminal damage, possession of drugs for sale or supply, money laundering and drug driving.

All of the people arrested were subsequently sent before the courts.

Gardai say: “Over the past two days, July 19 and 20, uniformed and detective Garda in Laois have carried out a number of operations as part of Operation Thor.

“As a result of these operations 45 charges were preferred against 11 suspects during these 2 days.

“These charges included robbery, burglary, theft, theft from shops, criminal damage, possession of drugs for sale or supply, money laundering and drug driving.

“In the 2 weeks leading up to these days of action 3 suspects were charged with 34 offences of burglary and theft.

“All of these suspects were brought before or are due before Portlaoise District Court.

“As well as the arrest and charges a large number of searches were also conducted, along with checkpoints, patrols, community engagement and crime prevention advice.”
