Portlaoise Garda Station holding open day today to give insight into their daily work

Portlaoise Garda Station are holding an open day today from 12pm-3pm with a sensory hour from 11am-12pm.

The event is set to give a real insight into the various roles of An Garda Síochána.

A variety of local and specialised Garda units will be displayed at the open day, including the Dog Unit, Mounted Unit, Community Policing Unit, Armed Response Unit, Mountain Bike Unit, Roads Policing Unit, Scenes of Crime Unit, Water Unit and Air Support Unit.

There will also be face painting and an ice cream van there throughout the day.
“We are looking forward to welcoming everyone and showing what it is we do in our daily work to help protect our community,” they said in a statement.

“The open day will also be of interest to car enthusiasts as we will have a display of our current fleet as well as vintage and classic Garda Cars.”

The event is expected to attract considerable interest throughout the day.
