Gardaí appeal for information after attempted burglary on Laois hotel

Gardaí in Abbeyleix are appealing for information following an attempted burglary at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

It’s understood that a car pulled up at the side of the hotel near the bog walk and went about gaining entry via a door on that side of the hotel.

However, they fled the scene when a member of staff appeared.

The incident comes just over six months after a break in at the hotel when a safe was robbed.

Hotel management installed considerable extra security following that robbery but were almost subject to a similar breakthrough this week.

“We are appealing to anyone that may have been in Abbeyleix or surrounding areas between 2.30 and 4.30am (on Tuesday, August 2) that may have noticed any suspicious activity involving a dark coloured saloon type car,” posted the Garda Síochána Laois Offaly page on Facebook.

“Please contact us on 057 8730580 or private message us on Facebook.

“We are particularly interested in any vehicles passing through Abbeyleix that may have dash cam footage to get in touch with us.”
