Miscellany Cakes now offering a range of sugar craft and decorating classes – beginning this October

Sarah Walsh from the renowned Miscellany Cakes in Portlaoise is excited to be re-launching her sugarcraft and cake decorating classes, with a mix of old and new classes that you can sign up for on her website now!

The group classes, which cater for all levels from budding baker to experienced cake decorator, will be run in a new venue – a dedicated demonstration/training kitchen at the MDA Mountmellick Development Association building in Mountmellick.

Class sizes will be small for close tuition.

All classes are hands-on with tools and materials provided for use during class time.

Fundamentals of Cake Decorating

By popular demand, Sarah is introducing a six-week course, one evening per week covering the Fundamentals of Cake Decorating.

This course will start on Tuesday, October 18, and includes:

  • How to cover a cake with fondant
  • Basic colour theory
  • Horizontal and vertical stripes
  • Frills and ruffles
  • Ribbons, bows and how to make decorations on supports

The class will work on dummy tiers to complete the Fashion Stiletto Cake Design which you can take home at the end of the course.

Sugar Peony Class

If the art of sugar flowers is something you’d like to learn, the Sugar Peony Class is for you!

It’s a two-part workshop with the option of attending for two evenings (October 11-12) or two Saturday afternoons (November 5 and 12).

You’ll learn about petal formation, dusting, wiring and taping techniques, so you can complete your very own sugar peony to take home!
