Two Laois students were awarded first and second places based on their aggregate marks across all modules in the Royal College of Surgeons recently.

Eimear Corri and Caoimhe Dignam are in Year 2 of Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) at the college.

Corri is a past pupil of Scoil Chríost Rí, Portlaoise while Caoimhe Dignam previously attended Scoil Íosagáin Portarlington.

The awards were presented at the Consilio Manuque (scholarship and dexterity) Annual Student Awards at RCSI University of Medical and Health Sciences.

Eimear also received a Student Services Sports Bursary for her achievements as a Rugby player with Blackrock College RFC and Leinster Senior Women.

A former Portlaoise RFC player, Eimear played in the recent AIL final against Railway Union – a first win for Blackrock in the last 14 years.

She also represented Leinster in the Intro-Pro series earlier this year.

Her side defeated Connacht and Ulster but lost out narrowly to Munster which saw them finish second.
