Four Laois residents studying in Carlow College, St. Patrick’s have been recognised for their academic achievement at the annual Carlow College Scholarships Awards ceremony on Wednesday, 19th April.
Second year students, Mary Osadolor from Mountmellick, studying a BA in Applied Social Studies (Professional Social Care) and Susan Hanly from the Laois side of Carlow town, studying a BA in Arts & Humanities; along with third year student, Lucy Osborne from Portarlington, studying a BA (Hons) in Arts & Humanities, both received Progression Scholarships valued at €500 for achieving the highest grade point average in their year.
Likewise, first year student, Anna Mc Wey from Ballyroan studying a BA (Hons) in Social, Political & Community Studies received an Academic Achievement Entrance Scholarship valued at €500, awarded for achieving the highest CAO points on her course.
Three types of scholarships are available to Carlow College students each year: Academic Achievement Entrance Scholarships for the student achieving the highest CAO points for each undergraduate course; Mature Student Entrance Scholarships for the mature student achieving the highest semester one results in their first year; and, a range of progression scholarships for the highest achieving students for each programme progressing to the next year.
For the 2022/23 academic year, the College awarded a total of 20 scholarships.
The students were awarded their Scholarship Awards by College President, Fr Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Registrar, Dr Thomas McGrath at a ceremony in the College.
In congratulating students, Dr McGrath said “Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is delighted to make these scholarship awards to our well deserving students and to recognise their hard work and dedication to their studies”.
