The pandemic has a lot to answer for but one thing it did give us was a different perspective on where we could grab a coffee, treat or a bite to eat.
Thankfully, the Kent family – owners of the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel for the last 23 years – were more than willing to get creative when it came to how they would continue to serve their loyal customer base during the lockdowns.
From its Airsteam beginnings in May 2020 to the heated terrace with retractable roof and cocktail bar, Polly’s is now looking forward to welcoming you this summer.
“Polly’s began during Covid as a result of the hotel being closed down and we noticed many people going to do the hugely popular Abbeyleix Bog Walk,” explains April Kent.
“We needed to find a way to get our coffee machine outside!
“After searching online, we found an airstream caravan. We decided in addition to selling coffee we would install a wood-fired pizza oven in it also.
“Our mission was to provide the best quality coffee, cakes and woodfired-neopolitan style pizzas to all.
“We opened in May 2020 and in March 2021, we decided to expand operations further and swopped out the airstream for two 20ft shipping containers in which we put a larger kitchen in addition to the pizza oven.
“We also expanded the lower terrace seating area. The final job was to install a retractable roof and moveable glass sides which was completed in October 2022.”
Polly’s is open seven days a week and is both family friendly and dog friendly and has ample free parking. As well as the heated indoor terrace, covered by the new retractable roof, there is also outdoor seating.
Menu
Sourdough toasted sandwiches, homemade cakes and treats, barista coffees and speciality teas are all available seven days a week.
Pizzas and hot food available every Saturday 5-9pm & Sundays 5pm–8pm (summer opening hours).
Music and Cocktails
During the Summer months, join us every Sunday evening for Live music on the terrace. Tiki Cocktail bar will also be open serving all your favourites.
