Over €13 million in funding for 12 Laois healthcare projects

Twelve Laois projects have been awarded a combined €13.29 million in funding from the Government’s 2023 Capital Plan for the construction and equipping of healthcare facilities.

Projects in Mountmellick and Portlaoise are among the list in what has been allocated by Minister of Health Stephen Donnelly in 2023 funding.

The new build project in St Vincent’s in Mountmellick has been awarded €7 million while the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise has been given €4.95 million across six different projects.

There has also been close to €600,000 for three different projects in St Fintan’s Hospital in Portlaoise as well as €500,000 for community residence in Summerhill in Portlaoise and €225,000 for the adaptation of a building in St Fintan’s for the Portlaoise Primary Care Centre.

The news was warmly welcomed by Laois-Offaly TD and Minister for State Sean Fleming.

I was very pleased to have spoken in detail with Minister Donnelly about these much needed projects in Laois,” said Minister Fleming. 

“I am pleased to see this funding for our healthcare facilities in Laois. Each project provides an excellent service for those in need of healthcare in our communities or in a hospital setting.

“It is important that we see continued support to maintain the buildings and the services they provide.

“I look forward to works progressing as quickly possible and I would like to acknowledge the great work provided by everyone involved in delivering these healthcare services. 

Details are as follows:  Please note the amount allocated is for 2023, and not the total for the project.

St Vincent’s Mountmellick – €7 million

HIQA Compliance, Phase 1, new build

Portlaoise Midlands Regional Hospital – €4.95 million

Respiratory Assessment Unit: 2-storey modular building to provide respiratory assessment unit for ED to segregate Covid & non-Covid clients – €2.85 million

Acute Mental Health Unit, anti ligature works. Phased delivery – €700,000

Mechanical Upgrade Works; Decontamination Unit,; Endoscopy Procedure Room 1 & 2; Special Care Baby Unit Decontamination Unit, Special Care Baby Unit – €690,000

Project to complete works based on fire safety audit report – €400,000

Reconfiguration of available space to provide additional clinical & admin accommodation –  €600,000

Reconfiguration of Maternity Ward – €250,000

Portlaoise 

Adaptation of building on the St Fintan’s Campus to create Portlaoise Primary Care Centre – €255,000

Replacement (purchase) Community Residence for 4 ID clients – Summerhill – €500,000

St Fintan’s, Portlaoise:

A new building adjacent and linked to existing Health Centre at St Fintan’s campus to facilitate establishment of Interim CDM Laois base incorporating ICPOP Outreach services. Refurbishment of 80 sq m first floor of the existing Health centre for Office Accommodation for CDM Team – €330,000

New build facility for longterm CDM base & ICPOP outreach services and associated ECC accommodation. Will be linked to existing Health Centre – €210,000

Refurbishment Works for CAMHS Team 3 in St Fintan’s Hospital Portlaoise €50,000
