All smiles as horse owned and trained in Laois scoops big prize in Punchestown

Arrycan wins in Punchestown for Shannon Street Syndicate main

A Laois horse racing trainer and syndicate enjoyed a very successful weekend at a meeting in Punchestown.

On Sunday, Liam Cusack’s Arrycan was victorious at the Kildare venue.

He went off at odds of 7/1 in the Ladbrokes Handicap Steeplechase.

The Mountrath trainer’s charge disputed lead initially and led from 3rd.

He then made rest, was ridden two fences out but stayed on well under pressure on the run-in to win by a length and a half.

Speaking to IrishRacing.com, trainer Cusack reckons that the horse, owned by Shannon Street Syndicate who are made up of Laois people, will head for Galway next.

He said: “That was nice. Things happened a bit quick for him the last day but he came out of the race well.

“He’s probably a horse for the bigger tracks and he got into a lovely rhythm there, ears pricked, and he jumped for fun.

“It’s nice to have him back, he’s a nice enough horse. It’s lovely to win, they are a great bunch of lads and they are getting great fun out of him.

“He could maybe go for the Galway Blazers, that would be made for him I’d say. He wouldn’t get into the Plate.”

Cusack has runners in the coming days with Snugsborough Hall going in Roscommon this evening.

While Pearlofflorida, Glencourt Valley and Ballyglass Beauty all go in Sligo on Tuesday.
