Boy racer meets ‘a Garda priority’ as fines and vehicles seized in Laois

Boy racer meets are a Garda priority, the Laois Joint Policing Committee has heard at this week’s meetings.

Garda Superintendent Eamon Curley made the statement at a report presentation as part of the Committee’s Integration Plan.

Supt Curley identified an operation between Portlaoise Traffic Corps and their counterparts in Offaly as a recent example of success.

The operation took place on the 25th of March at a boy-racer meet in Glendine, near the border of Laois and Offally in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.

Several fines were issued and a number of vehicles were seized.

The report also included information and statistics regarding drugs, weapons, domestic disputes and more.

Fine Gael Cllr Conor Bergin welcomed the report, saying, “it is great to see a reduction in crime numbers.”

Cllr Bergin specifically commended Garda representatives for their operations regarding boy racers.

Supt Curley said boy-racer meets is a problem that requires ongoing vigilance and is getting high level of attention from members of the Traffic Corps.
