Planning permission sought for large new residential development in Laois

Laois County Council have received a request for planning permission for a large new residential development.

The site in question is at Canal Road in Portarlington, which is currently home to McCann Park, St Patrick’s Boys NS, and Lidl.

The application is for the construction of a 74 Unit Residential Development. Plans for the development are to include:

6 two-storey semi-detached 4 bedroom houses (A/A1-Type).

6  two-storey semi-detached 4 bedroom Houses (B-Type).

12 two-storey terrace 3 bedroom houses (C/C1-Type).

20 two-storey terrace 3 bedroom houses (D/D1-Type).

2 two-storey semi-detached 5 bedroom houses (E/E1-Type)

2 three-storey Apartment blocks with 14 apartments each.

Each appartment block will incorporate 1,2 and 3 bedroom units.

The proposed development will also include 2 new site entrances, one entrance onto Bracklone Street and one entrance onto Canal Road,

An internal access road will be put in place for entry to the site.

Amenities to be included in the project are footpaths, car-parking, cycle parking, boundary treatments, lighting, bin storage, foul and surface water drainage, and water services.

There will also be public open space, private amenity space, landscaping and all associated infrastructure works and services.

The developer is Mr Thomas O’Gorman Ltd and a decision by Laois County Council is due on August 7.
