Applications open for part-time study at Carlow College

Applications now open

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s has opened applications for the coming semester for its part-time study options with the launch of its new Postgraduate & Part-Time Prospectus.

With over 20 part-time postgraduate and certificate courses on offer from NFQ levels seven to nine, the part-time courses offer a unique opportunity to gain a recognised qualification to add to the CV or for personal development purposes.

Commencing in September 2023, a range of 12-week Certificate courses will be offered either online or on-campus covering disciplines such as creative writing, psychology, theology, politics and society.

Certificate courses are delivered one evening (or Saturday morning) per week over 12 weeks. All Certificate courses are validated by South East Technological University.

Hybrid study options

The courses, launched in 2022, form part of Carlow College’s expanding range of part-time study options with an increasing number of online or hybrid study options.

In fact, for the first time in 2023, the MA and Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Regional History will be delivered on a hybrid basis, with classes one night per week online and one night on-campus. This also extends to the Higher Diploma in Politics & Society, which launched in January 2023 and is delivered mostly online, with the exception of a two-day workshop.

Furthermore, the College has a limited number of spaces remaining on its postgraduate programmes including the MA and Postgraduate Diploma in Irish Regional History and MA (Leadership in Therapeutic Child & Social Care) commencing in September 2023. The Higher Diploma in Politics & Society will also have an intake in September 2023.

All new Certificate and Higher Diploma programmes are offered on a part-time basis, with classes held on-campus one or two evenings per week, as well as a small number offering online classes on Saturdays.

Upskill opportunities

Speaking of the new programmes, Academic and Research Development Project Manager, Dr Eoghan Smith says “Carlow College is delighted to roll out a brand new suite of part-time Certificate programmes, all of which are validated by SETU.

These flexible courses are perfect for people who are looking to upskill for professional purposes or for those who are returning to learning or just want to learn something new.”

Applications are now open for all part-time courses with closing dates of the 25th August for Higher Diplomas and Certificates commencing in September. Postgraduate applications will close once places are filled.
