St Joseph’s and Ballyroan-Abbey get new kits

Two Laois GAA clubs have unveiled new jerseys for this year’s senior football championship.

St Joseph’s have been sponsored with a new set by Dan Nelligan who also plays for them as a goalkeeper.

They said: “The club wish to thank Daniel Nelligan “Nelligan Sports” for his kind sponsorship of a set of Jersey’s to our Senior Team for this year’s championship.

“We wish them and all our teams every success this year.”

Meanwhile, Mulhall’s SuperValu in Portlaoise have once again sponsored Ballyroan-Abbey with a new set.

Maggie Walsh Tournament

The third ever hurling tournament in memory of a legendary Laois hurlers will get underway on Thursday evening.

Back in 2017, the people of Ballinakill and Laois GAA were in mourning following the sudden death of a great servant – Michael ‘Maggie’ Walsh.

The 64-year-old was one of Laois and Ballinakill’s most decorated players as he won several medals at club and county level.

This year’s hurling tournament will be for U-15s this time and will involve eight hurling clubs from Laois and Kilkenny will begin tonight.

Ballinakill-Ballypickas, Mountrath, Abbeyleix and The Harps are representing Laois.

Lisdowney, St Patrick’s Ballyraggett, St Martin’s and St Lachtain’s are Kilkenny’s representatives.

Check out the fixtures and you can follow updates on the Ballinakill GAA website.

Pictures from Premier IHC and IHC games

Last week, our photographer Paul Dargan was at two matches where he captured some great images.

In the IHC, Colt-Shanahoe defeated Mountrath to claim a semi final place.

While in the Premier IHC, Ballyfin got their campaign underway by defeating Slieve Bloom.
