Junior Golfers making life-long memories on The Heath

The Junior Golf season at the Heath has been busy this year, with the programme hailed as a resounding success.

Resident PGA Pro Golfer, Mark O’Boyle leads the coaching of junior players as the bedrock of the programme.

Follow-up supervised practice then takes place with a dedicated group of volunteers taking the juniors out on the course.

Many enthusiastic junior members then choose to go out on the course themselves, supervised by family members, to put their new skills into practice.

The club’s refurbished driving range proved very popular over the summer months and has added a new element to the junior programme.

The highlight of the year saw 28 juniors participate in Junior Captain, Paddy Fitzpatrick’s Prize.

Senior Boys:

  • Winner – Cormac Keegan, handicap (h/c) (16)
  • Runner-up – Killian Christie h/c (9)
  • 3rd Place – Paddy Fitzpatrick h/c (8)

Senior Girls

  • Winner – Eire Delaney
  • Runner-up – Abi White

Junior Boys

  • Winner – Aidan Maher

Junior Girls

  • Winner – Mya Dunne

Last week saw the third round of the Junior Sixes taking place with teams from Portarlington, The Curragh, and The Heath participating.

This is a new format sees beginner juniors play six holes in a scramble format.

Teams must consist of at least two boys and at least two girls.

This is a fun way for those without a handicap to gain the skills, learn etiquette, and learn the rules.

The players thoroughly enjoyed playing on other courses, meeting other golfers, and of course being presented with their certs and medals.

“It was nice playing with other people, the scramble format is great so when if you have a bad shot, you play your partner’s ball and it’s nice playing as a team,” Mya Dunne said.
