A Laois TD has encouraged more Laois schools to take part in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2024.

Minister for State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sean Fleming, outlined how important the competition is.

Fleming said: “It is important that more Laois schools take part in and apply for the competition.

“I have no doubt that there is lots of talent in Laois and there could be a winner amongst our schools.”

The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition is a leading showcase of science, technology, engineering and maths.

Deputy Fleming said: “The competition is a chance for all the students in Laois to be creative and develop their analytical and problem solving skills.

“The skills they will develop by entering this competition will be valuable to them in all walks of life.

“Past participants have become successful scientists, researchers, high-tech entrepreneurs and academics, making a positive impact in their own way in their local communities and around the world.”

The closing date to apply for entry is 5pm on Monday, October 2.

The Exhibition itself will take place in January 2024 in the RDS in Dublin.
