JOB VACANCY: Laois Chamber seeking to hire new Chief Executive Officer

Location: Laois Chamber Alliance Office, Portlaoise, but some travel required

About Laois Chamber Alliance

Laois Chamber Alliance acts as an umbrella body for Laois Chamber and Laois Tourism, strengthening networking opportunities, collaborating with events and sharing of resources to create a thriving and bustling economy in Laois for all sectors, and for Laois to be recognised both nationally and internationally as the ideal location to live, work, visit, invest and do business.

As the largest business representative organisation in Laois with over 150 members, we offer our members networking opportunities, mentoring and supports, and training opportunities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Managing a small team and working with the Board of Laois Chamber Alliance to promote Laois as the ideal location to live, work, visit, invest, and do business.
  • Working closely with our members and develop the capacity of the Chamber by building membership in line with specified targets, and establish links with partner organisations in Laois and beyond.
  • Providing support and guidance to our members.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration and running of the Laois Chamber Alliance office.
  • Financial management and budgeting for the organisation, including bookkeeping, invoicing, and working with appointed accountants to prepare yearly accounts and financial statements for our annual AGM.
  • Writing and executing funding applications, and keeping abreast of funding opportunities available for businesses in the county.
  • Working with members to identify key issues and lobbying on their behalf.
  • Preparing policy proposals and submissions, and as necessary respond to national and regional policy documents, which influence economic development and business in Laois.
  • Organisation and preparation of reports for regular Board meetings.
  • Attending conferences and events on behalf of the Chamber, and representing the Chamber on relevant boards, committees, and stakeholder groups.
  • Regular engagement with Chambers Ireland.
  • Working with members, developing and organising a calendar of networking and events.
  • Planning, writing, and executing various marketing campaigns, including Laois Chamber Alliance’s regular newsletters.
  • Managing the Chamber’s social media channels and content creation.
  • Working with local and national media with regards to any developments, raising the profile of the Chamber generating positive publicity for the county, and any other matters relevant to the Chamber. You will also be required to respond to any media enquiries and represent the Chamber for media engagements.
  • Researching policy developments and investment opportunities for the county.
  • Liaising with potential expanders or new companies to encourage investment in Laois.
  • Developing an excellent working relationship with the Tourism Development Executive and Board of Laois Chamber Alliance.

Skills and Qualities

The ideal candidate will require well-honed commercial and business management skills, coupled with a track record of leadership and exemplary stakeholder management skills. Strong interpersonal skills are also required.

Additional competencies include excellent networking ability, strategic thinking, financial management, public relations, event organisation and the ability to influence all stakeholders and work closely with the Board of Laois Chamber Alliance.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
