Gerard (Gerry) McDonald
Drumcondra, Dublin / Lower Rossmore, Carlow / Laois

Gerard (Gerry) McDonald of Drumcondra, Dublin 9 and formerly of Lower Rossmore, Carlow, passed away unexpectedly, on September 26th, 2023.

Beloved son of the late Paddy and Anne McDonald and cherished brother of Breda Cotter (Ashbourne), John, Mary (May) (Dublin), Tom, Bernadine Mulhall (Arles), Lucia (Dublin), Paddy, Claire Gilroy (Dublin) and the late Anne Sheehan (Kerry).

He will be sadly missed by his loving brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunt Sheila, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, relatives and friends.

Mary Shinners (née Downey)
Portarlington, Laois / Drimnagh, Dublin

Mary Shinners (nee Downey), Oakdale Nursing Home, Portarlington, Co. Laois, and formerly of Drimnagh Road, Dublin 12. Died peacefully on the 5th October 2023, at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Sadly missed by her son Eamonn, daughter Elizabeth, grandchildren Oran, Ethan, Jamie, Sarah and Conor, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Burke’s Funeral Home, Mountrath on Friday evening from 7.0’clock to 8.0’clock. Removal on Saturday morning to Newlands Cross Crematorium for Cremation at 2.0.clock

Joseph (Joe) Smyth
58 Kirwan Park, Mountmellick, Laois / Shinrone, Offaly

Joseph better known as Joe Smyth, 58 Kirwan Park, Mountmellick, Co. Laois & formally of Glasshouse, Shinrone, Co. Offaly. Passed away unexpectedly at home on the 4th of October 2023. Predeceased by his loving wife Kathleen, his parents John and Lily. Deeply regretted by his heart broken children Elaine and John, his Best friend and Carer Peg, grandchildren Isabella, Lily, Freddie, Kayci, Harry, Tori and Molly, his sister Mary, his brothers Willie and Paddy, brother-in-law Pat, sisters-in-law Evelyn and Catherine, son-in-law Roger Foot, daughter-in-law Louise Kearns, (Acragar, Mountmellick), extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Mary B. McCarthy (née Kilroy)
Ballybrophy, Laois / Kilcock, Kildare

The death has occurred of Mary B. McCarthy (nee Kilroy) formerly of the Signal Box, Ballybrophy, Co. Laois and recent resident of Parke House, Nursing Home, Kilcock, Co. Kildare. Mary was predeceased by her husband Peter, son Stephen and infant daughter Eleanor. She is sadly mourned by her son Peter, daughters Alyson and Sally Anne, daughter-in-law Fiona, son-in-law David and her two cherished grandsons Jack and William.She will be sadly missed by her extended family and wide circle of friends.

Funeral mass will take place on Friday morning in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Rathdowney at 10 o’clock followed by cremation at The Island Crematorium, Cork (strictly private). Family flowers only.

Denis Donoghue
“Carricknock” Ballydaly, Tullamore, Offaly, R35 E046 / Laois

Past Provincial Grand Knight of St. Columbanus. Late of Old Knockmay, Co. Laois. Peacefully at home in his 79th year after a long illness borne with dignity and acceptance, surrounded by his loving family. Denis will be sadly missed by his loving wife Sheila and daughters Marguerite (Cahill), Denise (Keoghan) and Aoife (Shihab), sons in law Jonathan, Michael and Oliver, his adored grandchildren Micheál, Stephen, Emily, Donncha, Alister, Oisín and Bradán, brother Dan (Athy), (deceased brothers John and Michael), sisters Patty (Clondalkin) and Claire (Arklow), brother in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at his home on Friday from 3pm until Rosary at 8pm. Removal on Saturday morning at 11am to the Church of The Assumption, Tullamore arriving for Requiem Mass at 11.30am. Burial afterwards in St. Colmcille’s Cemetery, Durrow. No flowers, donations in lieu to the Irish Cancer Society or The Knights Of St Columbanus.

Mary Begadon (née Crombie)
Tentore, Ballacolla, Laois

Mary Begadon (nee Crombie), Tentore, Ballacolla, Co. Laois, October 3rd, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her family at Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Predeceased by her husband Martin, son Cyril, sister Betty (Conroy) and brother Bernard. Deeply regretted by her loving family, Pascal, Eugene, Anne-Marie (Browne) and Caroline (Brennan), sons-in-law John and Seamus, daughter-in-law Kristina, grandchildren Alan, Orla, Darragh, Bríd, Colm, Fergal and Canice, brothers and sisters Teresa (Dunne), Hughie, Seamus and Marian, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Reposing at her daughter’s residence, Tentore, Ballacolla (Eircode R32 H2W4) on Thursday evening from 4 o’clock pausing for prayers at 8 o’clock. Removal on Friday morning to The Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballacolla arriving for Requiem mass at 12 noon followed by interment in St. Fergal’s Cemetery, Ballacolla.

Ann Carroll (née Owens)
Knockahaw, Errill, Laois

Ann Carroll (nee Owens) The Derries, Knockahaw, Errill, Co. Laois and formerly of Rosemount, Roscrea, Co Tipperary, 4th of October 2023, in the loving care of the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of Portlaoise Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Bobby, brothers Thomas and Joseph, her mother Jane and son in law Ger.  Deeply regretted by her loving daughters Anne, Catherine, Jackie, Lisa and Teresa, sons Robert, Philip and Michael, her brother in law Martin, with special needs, whom she took care of all her married life, Sisters Lena and Madeleine , brothers Sean and Francis, brothers in law and sisters-in-law, her 23 grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends and special mention to Megan from Comfort Care who looked after Ann so well in recent times.

Reposing in Grey’s Funeral Home, Templemore, this Thursday evening from 5pm to 7pm. Requiem Mass on Friday in Our Lady Queen of the Universe Church, Errill, at 11am. Interment in Errill Cemetery afterwards.

Kathleen Carroll (née O’Rourke)
Ballyouskill, Kilkenny / Laois

Peacefully at home in the presence of her loving family. Pre-deceased by her parents Jack and Mary and her brother Brendan. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Gerard (Ger), son Mark, daughter-in-law Sandra, grandchildren Emma, Grace, and Jack,  sisters Breda and Mary, brothers John and Denis, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Fintan Bergin
England and formerly of Cuffsboro, Clough, Ballacolla, Laois

Fintan Bergin of St Albans, Herts, England, passed away peacefully, on 12th September 2023, aged 90 years. Devoted husband of his late wife, Jean of Kellystown, Sligo, he will be sadly missed by his son Fearghal, daughter-in-law Miriam, grandchildren Ellie and Luke and by all his extended family and friends.

Funeral Service at St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Church, Beaconsfield Road, St Albans on 5th October 2023 at 10 am, followed by burial at London Road Cemetery, St Albans.
