Planning application lodged for new telecommunications tower in Laois

Laois County Council have received a planning application which will seek to construct a new telecommunications tower in the county.

Emerald Towers Limited sought planning permission on Wednesday, October 11.

The proposed site is in Crossneen, just outside Graiguecullen on the Laois/Carlow border.

The application is for the installation of a 24-meter-high telecommunication structure which will provide for wireless data and broadband services.

According to the application, the structure will carry antennas, dishes, and associated equipment.

The development is to include ground-based cabinets, palisade fencing, and all associated site development works.

It was announced in mid-2020 that Eir had completed the sale of Emerald Towers Limited – the company’s mobile infrastructure subsidiary.

Emerald Towers was purchased by US group, Phoenix Tower International for a reported €300 million.

The company already boasts 365 towers across Ireland, with seven Laois locations, including Mountmellick, Ballybrittas, Clondacasey, Cullenagh, Ballaghmaore, Kilbricken, and Pike of Rushall.

A decision is expected before Christmas.
