Call for works to be carried out to alleviate flooding problem ‘after Crookedy Cross’

A call has been made for urgent works to be carried out on a road in Laois which has experienced serious flooding.

The problem, as shown in the picture above is on the L2120 at Ballyteegan just after Crookedy Cross in Portlaoise.

This is an area on the Ridge Road and not too far away from the River Triogue.

Speaking at a meeting of the Portlaoise Municipal District, Fianna Fail Councillor Catherine Fitzgerald called for action.

She said: “The water is coming up and going the whole way across the Ridge Road.

“It is really dangerous, especially when people are driving around the bend and then suddenly come to it.”

Senior Engineer Wes Wilkson said that an application for funding would be made.

He said: “The Portlaoise MD Office will be submitting an application for drainage funding this year.

“That will allow for works to be carried out in early 2024 in the L2120.”

In a separate motion, Cllr Fitzgerald asked that the Council repair the road from Togher to Burnwood.

Engineer Wilkinson said he will make himself available to meet Cllr Fitzgerald at the location to discuss the repairs.
