Ladies Rugby: Portlaoise and Roscrea combine forces for 2023/24 season

Following recent discussions between Portlaoise and Roscrea rugby clubs, it was decided that the ladies sections would combine for this season.

Portlaoise struggled for numbers last year and have been unable to field a team since the new season began.

Subsequently, a number of Portlaoise players were granted a one-year transfer to the Tipperary club, who play their rugby in the  Leinster League.

Roscrea travelled to Westmanstown on Sunday to take on Garda in the Leinster league and came away with 12-27 win.

Six Portlaoise players were involved and played a impressive role in the win.

The six were Sarah Breslin, Rachael Murphy, Rachel Palmer, Jorja Mullen, Robyn Mullen and Maria Kenny, the latter her first game.

The influx of players clearly made a difference as the win was the club’s first of the season, having lost their opening three games against Newbridge, St Mary’s/Guinness, and Swords.

Roscrea/Portlaoise are back in action this coming Sunday, October 22nd, when they will welcome Navan to Streamstown.
