Annual WWI Remembrance Ceremony set to take place on Sunday in Portlaoise

The annual remembrance ceremony for those who died in World War One be held on Sunday, November 19, in Portlaoise.

The ceremony will also honour those who died in subsequent conflicts across the globe.

A service of remembrance will be conducted in St Peter’s Church of Ireland at 10:45.

This will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial Millview, Portlaoise at 12pm.

Members of the public are invited to attend.

The War Memorial was built in 1918 to the memory of 177 officers and men of the 4th Battalion (Leinster), Queen’s County Regiment who died in The First World War of 1914-18.

Charlie Flanagan TD will give a speech at the war memorial.

The event, while sombre, is always very popular and well-attended.
