Water water everywhere – flooding issues reaching breaking point

Flooding at the playground in Mountrath is a regular occurrence.

A Laois County Councillor has put flooding top of his agenda at the November meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District.

Fine Gael Cllr Conor Bergin began by calling on Laois County Council to address the flooding and drainage issues at Clonard, Mountrath “as a matter of priority.”

Mr Edmond Kenny, District Engineer said:

“An Engineer will inspect the existing drainage infrastructure at this location to determine the cause of the flooding and to identify a possible drainage outfall to solve this issue.”

Next, Cllr Bergin asked that the Council address the surface water issues at the Farrell residence, Spa Hill, Mountrath.

Mr Kenny said the Council will arrange examine the area of concern.

Cllr Bergin ended by urging Laois County Council to install additional kerbing on the L1620 at Pilgrim Hill, Gash, Castletown to enhance drainage measures.

Mr Kenny again responded, saying the Council will examine the drainage issues.
