1 – ‘Made in Dagenham’: Love of music continues to bring Ballyfin man back to the stage for latest leading role

One of the standout talents of Portlaoise Musical Society is Ballyfin native Eoghan Fingleton whose love of music has endured since his childhood.

Eoghan (36), who now lives in Kilkenny, plays the part of Eddie in ‘Made in Dagenham’ which is currently running at Dunamaise Theatre.

2 – In Pictures: Mountrath Community School honour eight former colleagues following retirement

The staff of Mountrath Community school gathered in the Midlands Park Hotel to celebrate the retirement of eight colleagues recently.

On Friday October 10, Kevin Egan, Tom Devane, Br. Gerry Reburn, Colm O’Toole, Anne Moore, Margaret Burke, Joya Dunne and Aiden Feeley were present as the staff paid tribute to them.

3 – Laois athlete include as Irish Cross Country team selected for European Championships

Portlaoise’s Mary Mulhare has been selected on the Irish Women’s Senior Cross Country team to compete in the European Championships next month.

She is part of an Irish squad stacked with European championship experience which has been selected for the 29th edition of the competition which take place in Brussels on December 10.

The old Presentation convent in question is located in the middle of Stradbally and has been vacant now for decades.

Its deteriorating condition has long been a bone of contention for Stradbally based Councillor Paschal McEvoy who raised the issue at a recent meeting of the Graiguecullen-Portarlington District.

A young Laois teenager is set to perform on the Late Late Toy Show on Friday night after impressing judges during auditions.

Fiachra Dooley, who is 13 and from Borris-in-Ossory, is a very talented singer and made a big impression when attending auditions during the summer.

It was a hectic day of action in O’Moore Park today as the first day of this year’s Cumann na mBunscol football finals took place.

In all 11 games took place and they produced 11 different winners.

Just a short time after he returned to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Rath, to celebrate his golden jubilee on October 14 last, Ballybrittas native Fr Seán Murphy SDBs has died after a short illness.

The missionary priest who was in his 90th year, had planned to return to Johannesburg the week after his golden jubilee celebrations.

A Laois soccer player was part of history last night as Athlone Town claimed their first ever Women’s FAI Cup crown.

Emo’s Gillian Keenan scored a wonderful goal in the second half of extra time to send the final against Shelbourne to penalties.

9 – Former Limerick and Carlow players appointed to coaching roles with Laois senior footballers

Former Limerick footballer Diarmuid Carroll and former Carlow player James Clarke have been added to the Laois senior football management backroom team in coaching roles.

Carroll has been added as a coach/selector alongside Ross Munnelly while Clarke is the new goalkeeping coach.

It was another hectic day of action in the Laois Cumann na mBunscol football finals as the action for 2023 came to an end.

Just like yesterday, we had 11 finals down for decision today and Holy Family were undoubtedly the big winners.
