LaoisToday QuizCast: Quarter-final – Eimear Barry v Jack Scully

The first quarter-final in the LaoisToday QuizCast sees Jack Scully of Portlaoise Panthers fame go up against Laois ladies football goalkeeper Eimear Barry.

Jack was the highest scorer of all Round 1 winners, installing him as outright favourite to win this entire thing out.

Eimear scraped past her colleague Mo Nerney but showed enough promise to say she can go far in this competition.

The winner will be the first to book their place in the Square Bar on Friday, December 8, where the semi-finals and final will be held in part of a special event.

There are two slight changes to the format from the Last 16:

Our ‘Hon Laois’ Round has been replaced by the ‘Home or Away’ Round; contestants can choose a home question for one point, or an away question for two points.

In Round 4, contestants will now earn TWO points for the correct answer; if nobody’s get’s it exactly right, the closest to the correct answer gets ONE point.

Bonus 2013: This was the year that Sir Alex Ferguson retired as manager of Manchester United, bowing out with his 13th League title. Who was his last match against?

Round 3 – Home or Away

Eimear:

Home – Which Ladies Footballer was this week named as 2023 Senior Players’ Player of the Year?

Away – Only five teams have ever reached the final of the Rugby World Cup. Of those five, only one has NEVER won the tournament. Who is it?

Jack:

Home – Denver Nuggets beat Miami Heat 4-1 to win the 2023 NBA championships. Who was the finals MVP?

Away – Losing his first final in 1984, which English player was a six-time beaten finalist in the Snooker World Championships, without ever getting his hands on the trophy?
