The Heath Ladies held their end of season awards recently and Sadie Ging won the Golfer of the Year.

Sadie has been a long-standing member of the Club and has competed in Golf Ireland Inter Club teams.

Marie Conlon, also a long-standing member of the Club won the “Birdie” competition, the most birdies over the season.

She has also lots of accolades to her name and represented the Club on numerous inter Club competitions.

Noeleen Byrne joined the Club in 2020 as part of the Get into Golf programme and what a few years she has had.

She won Golfer of the Year in 2020 and the Ladies prize in the President’s this year.

Representing the Heath, she won the Regional PGA Tankard competition in Carlow in September, to reach the final at the K Club.

Noeleen attributes her success to the Get into Golf programme.

She said: “In early 2020, I saw an advertisement on Facebook for the Get into Golf programme starting in the Heath Golf Club.

“Having played some golf a long time ago and always wanting to try it out again I took the plunge and joined the programme.

“Nearly 50 ladies began the programme, and we had lessons from the Club pro Mark O’Boyle as well as playing a few holes with some of the lady members that kindly gave up their time to help us and introduce to the game of golf and became our ‘Golf Buddies’.

“Unfortunately, Covid hit so everything was put on hold for a while but as soon as the restrictions were eased, we were all introduced to members in the Club and when I felt confident enough to start playing in the 18-hole competitions all the members were hugely supportive.

“There is always help at hand regarding rules of the game or encouraging you to play.

“To date I have enjoyed every minute of my time at the Club.

“From meeting and playing with different ladies on the Thursday social mornings to getting to play for the Club teams for the first time this year which has been the highlight of my time there.

“The long winter months are made more bearable by becoming involved in the Clubs Winter League Competition which provides great banter between all the teams and a chance to play with other lady members of the Club.”

Noeleen works in a demanding and stressful job as a Community Garda and golf has given her an outlet. She reckons the mental benefits of playing golf are huge. She says: “It helps to clear the mind and for me is therapy”.

Finally, Noeleen said: “Meeting so many new people and integrating into such a fantastic Club has been brilliant.

“For anyone that might be considering joining I could not recommend the Get into Golf programme highly enough and especially at the Heath Golf Club.

“The members go above and beyond to make sure every beginner is welcomed. Go for it, you will not regret it.”
