Laois man raises more than €13,000 following Ultra Marathon in memory of his late friend and teammate

Jamie Malone from Graiguecullen ran the Longford Ultra Marathon back in August in memory of his friend, Paddy Branagan.

Paddy, also from Graiguecullen, died unexpectedly in the United States in May of last year and Jamie has raised €13,095 in his memory.

The 63km Longford Ultra Marathon was the longest race that Malone ever took part in – but he managed to complete it.

And he ran to raise funds for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, a cause that has brought so much support to bereaved families across the island of Ireland.

The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust aims to support bereaved families repatriating the bodies of loved ones back to Ireland who have died abroad in sudden or tragic circumstances.

Jamie said: “I am delighted to announce that after months of fundraising following my ultra marathon run the final total raised was an overwhelming €13,095.

“I had the pleasure of getting to meet, and chat with Colin Bell (father of the late Kevin) who accepted the cheque on behalf of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.

“A big thanks to Colin for making the journey down.

“A special thanks once again to the Branagan family for all their support and allowing me to raise funds in the memory of our dear friend Paddy.

“Lastly a massive thanks to each and everyone of you who followed my progress, and showed so much kindness and generosity with your donations throughout the last few months.

“Each donation made will provide great financial support for a family in need.

“Thank you all once again and be sure to continue to support such a worthy cause.”
