Laois County Council’s first Local Authority Affordable Purchase Scheme has 16 new houses in Portlaoise

Chief Executive of Laois County Council, Mr John Mulholland has urged people in a position to purchase a home to begin preparing their finances, as new homes are soon coming onto the market.

Mr Mulholland was speaking at the December monthly meeting of Laois County Council, where he made the announcement of the new homes.

“This is a very positive step forward for Laois County Council in progressing the delivery of Affordable Homes in Laois,” he said.

“Laois County Council looks forward to launching more Affordable Schemes within the County, which will greatly benefit first time buyers in particular.”

In total, 16 new houses will be coming onto the market in  Portlaoise as the Council’s first Local Authority Affordable Purchase Scheme.

The scheme is designed to help bridge the gap for first time buyers between their own purchasing power and current market prices of new build homes.

The houses are available in Kilminchy on the Dublin Road, located in Lake Drive, Lake Crescent and Lake Glade.

The 16 properties in question are two- and three-bedroom, A-rated homes.

The council’s online portal will open for applications on January 4, 2024 at 11am.
