2023 Remembered: In Pictures: A selection of Paul Dargan images as the Dubs come to town

Back in April, the Dubs came to O’Moore park to play Laois in the championship for the first time in over 100 years.

For the first time in over 100 years, the Laois footballers played Dublin in a championship match in Portlaoise on Sunday afternoon.

With the sun beaming (until the final few minutes anyway) and a big travelling support in attendance, it made for a great pre-match atmosphere.

Unfortunately from a Laois point of view, Dublin were in a different class entirely, dominating the first half to race into an utterly unassailable 23-point lead by half time.

Con O’Callaghan, Ciaran Kilkenny, Brian Fenton and Colm Basquel were all on top form as Dessie Farrell’s side eased to a comfortable win.

By the final whistle, there was 27 points between the sides as Dublin finished 4-30 to 2-9 winners. They now go on to a Leinster semi-final meeting with Kildare next week and will surely seriously challenge for All Ireland honours once again once the group stages of the Sam Maguire get underway.

For Laois, attention must now turn to the new second-tier Tailteann Cup competition, which gets underway on the weekend of May 13-14.

Photographer Paul Dargan was on hand to capture a great selection of images which you can check out in full below.
