2023 Remembered: In Pictures: Rain fails to dampen spirits as crowds flock to Day 1 of the Ploughing Championships

Back in September when the LaoisToday team faced the weather at day 1 of the Ploughing Championship

A crowd of almost 70,000 people braved the wind and rain to come to Ratheniska on Tuesday for Day 1 of the Ploughing Championships.

Despite inclement weather conditions, the crowd ploughed on in lively spirits.

Those who braved the weather enjoyed everything from all the latest machinery and cutting edge innovations to fashion, quality livestock, crafts and many well-known faces.

Day 2 and Day 3 are expected to draw bigger crowds as the weather is forecast to be much better.

The LaoisToday team were there too and travelled the site for most of the day.

They recorded plenty of video interviews as well which we will have across social media in the coming days.

They even made it out to take in some of the actual ploughing also.

Photographer Paul Dargan was out and about the site on Tuesday to capture some great images.
