2023 Remembered: In Pictures: Dramatic finish sparks jubilant scenes as Stradbally Parish Gaels claim Minor glory

Back in October, Stradbally Parish Gaels completed an underdog story as they defeated St Joseph’s to be crowned Laois MFC Champions for 2023.

It will be a weekend that will go down as one of the most successful in the parish of Stradbally.

On Friday, Annanough claimed Junior A glory as they defeated The Harps very comfortably.

Saturday saw Stradbally run out big winners over The Heath in the Senior B final while Timahoe had been awarded the Intermediate B title following a walkover from Ballyroan-Abbey.

The three clubs play together as Stradbally Parish Gaels at juvenile level and competed in their second successive A minor final on Sunday.

St Joseph’s, who had beaten them at U-13 and U-15 were their opponents, and, despite playing well for long stages, it looked like they were going to come up short just as they had done last year.

However, a piece of brilliance from Cathal Buggie set up a goal chance for man of the match David Donohue and he duly took it in injury time.

Two minutes of that remained and although St Joseph’s got a point back, Stradbally Parish Gaels held on.

The final whistle saw an outpouring of emotion as members from all three clubs streamed onto the pitch.

Photographer Paul Dargan was there at full time to capture all of the celebrations.
