Over €200,000 announced for five rural projects in Clar funding across Laois

Five rural projects across County Laois have been approved for funding to the tune of €202,140.

The funding is provided under the Clár Programme for Rural Areas to assist local community groups develop facilities and amenities for their communities.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD announced funding of over €6 million for 152 projects nationwide.

“From AstroTurf pitches, playgrounds and sensory gardens to walking tracks, nature trails, outdoor performance spaces and community cafés – these projects really will make a difference to the lives of people of all ages and abilities,” Minister Humphreys said.

The grants, which are capped at €50,000 per project, have been spread the following five projects in Laois:

Catholes Falls Amenity Area – €50,000

  • Upgrading and biodiversity enhancement of public amenity area.

Capard Amenity Area – €35,000

  • Upgrading and biodiversity enhancement of public amenity area.

Knock Community Hall – €50,000

  • Upgrading of kitchen, stage and general facilities.

Trumera Community Hall – €43,560

  • Upgrading of kitchen, stage and general facilities.

Knock Chapel House – €23,850

  • Fit-out of a community house and creation of a community garden.

Speaking about the funding, Laois Offaly Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State said:

“I know each of these projects are of great benefit in the local area as they include development of amenity areas, community halls and a local community Chapel house.

“I particularly want to thank the communities and especially the people involved who are driving these projects which will benefit the entire community.”

Meanwhile, local Fine Gael TD, Charlie Flanagan said:

“Recent census results demonstrate that there are now more people living and working in Laois than ever before, which is extremely positive.

“Fine Gael have always prioritised sustainable rural development to allow people live, work and grow old in their own communities.

“I wish to congratulate all of the successful applicants and I wish them well in bringing their projects to fruition.

“These projects will make our rural communities here in Laois even more attractive places to live, work and raise a family.”

Laois’s Green Party representative, Rosie Palmer also welcomed the news, saying:

“I commend the groups for these groups and the volunteers involved for their continued commitment to their community facilities.

“It is wonderful to see an emphasis on outdoor activities, the upgrading and biodiversity enhancement and the upgrade of community facilities.

“Our Rural Future policy has been truly transformative for Rural Ireland and I am delighted to see this funding coming to Laois.”
