South-Leinster Colleges SFC ‘D’ Semi Final

Mountmellick Community School have a Senior South-Leinster ‘D’ Football Championship final to look forward to following victory over Colaiste Eoin Hacketstown.

The game, which was played in Clonmore last week, saw the side, managed by former Laois footballer Padraig McMahon and fellow teacher Paul Leonard, win by six points.

A fast start and a solid finish by the Mountmellick CS lads was ultimately the difference in the end.

Colaiste Eoin opened the scoring via Lee Doyle and James Boland but Corey Holohan and Rory Lawlor kept Mountmellick level.

That was in the tenth minute but the Laois school dominated the next ten minutes and built up a lead they would never relinquish.

Niall Lalwor and Adam Hunt kicked a brace each before Jim Scully and Hunt combined to set up Corey Holohan for the game’s first goal.

Colaiste Eoin hit back but Mountmellick remained ahead as Oisin Lawlor joined the scorers to leave them 1-8 to 0-6 in front at half time.

An early second half brace from Adam Hunt moved Mountmellick seven points clear but their opponents never gave up.

Conor Boland, Christopher O’Toole, Jack O’Toole and Aaron Kelly all pointed to leave just three between them as we entered injury time.

But Mountmellick had the final say as sub Oisin Hade lashed in their second goal to confirm victory.

Mountmellick will now face either Presentation College Bray or the winners of Coalaiste Craobh Abhann v Arklow CBS in the final.
