Patrick Kavanagh
Late of Derry, Portlaoise

Died in Belgium on January 16. Funeral taking place in Belgium on Monday at 11am. Patrick will be remembered at 10am mass in SS Peter and Paul’s Church in Portlaoise this Monday, January 22.

Kathleen (Kay) Corcoran (née Boyle)
Inch, Stradbally, Laois/Naas, Kildare

Kay passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her husband Jim. Sadly missed by her son and daughters, Sarah, James and Marie, and their partners Alan, Kathryn and James.

Grandchildren Mary Kate, Alice, James and Dan. Sisters Marjorie, Anya, and Jenny. Brothers Joe, Richard and the extended Corcoran and Boyle families. Brothers in law, Sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Kay will be reposing in the Presentation Chapel, Stradbally (R32 WRH9) on Friday evening 19th of January from 4pm until 8pm, with recital of the Rosary at 8pm.

Kay’s requiem Mass will take place on Saturday morning the 20th of January at 11am in the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally which can be viewed here followed by cremation in Newlands Cross Crematorium, Dublin at 1.30pm, which can be viewed here. 

The Corcoran family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and care staff in Portlaoise Hospital for their wonderful help and care they gave to Kay. The Corcoran family would also like to thank you for your support and understanding during this sensitive and difficult time.

Philomena Lalor (née Tyrell)
Lisbigney, Ballinakill, Laois, R32EH34

Philomena is formerly of Coolrain and Shanahoe and died in the exceptional care of the staff of The Transitional Care Unit at Abbeyleix Hospital in her 97th year surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her daughter Doris, brothers Sean, Charlie and Christy Joe, sisters Christina, Bridie and Maureen.

Philomena will be dearly missed by her loving husband Paddy, sons John, Colm, Declan and Eamon, brother Dave, daughters in law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at her residence from 2 oc on Friday with Rosary at 8 oc. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 12 oc in St.Brigid’s Church, Ballinakill which can be viewed on the Ballinakill parish website  followed by interment in St.Brigid’s Cemetery.

Paddy McCartney
Leixlip, Kildare/Clough, Laois

McCARTNEY (Leixlip, Co. Kildare and formerly of Clough, Co. Laois) January 17th 2024 (peacefully) in the loving care of the staff at St. Brigid’s Hospice, The Curragh.

Paddy, beloved husband of Maureen and a devoted father to Emma; Sadly missed by his loving wife, daughter, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family and friends.

Reposing at Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Lucan on Friday evening (January 19th) from 5.00pm to 7.00pm. Removal on Saturday morning (January 20th) to the Church of St. Charles Borromeo, Confey arriving for Funeral Mass at 11.00am followed by cremation at Newland’s Cross Crematorium.

Betty O’Brien (née Bracken)

Betty O’Brien (nee Bracken), “Willowfern”, Donaghmore, Co. Laois, January 18th. 2024, in her 98th. year, peacefully at Ballard Lodge, Portlaoise surrounded by her loving family and wonderful staff at Ballard Lodge.

Predeceased by her husband Billy and son John. Sadly missed by her adoring family,daughters Mary and Jacintha, son Liam, sons-in-law John and James, daughter-in-law Deirdre, her grandchildren Barry, David, Gavin, Nicola, Shell, Yvonne, Bill and Aoibhe, her 13 great-grandchildren, her wonderful neighbours and large circle of relatives and friends.

Reposing at her residence “Willowfern ” Donaghmore (Eircode R32 AX51) all day Friday, January 19th, pausing for prayers at 7 o’clock.

Removal on Saturday morning to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Rathdowney arriving for Requiem mass at 12. noon. Interment afterwards in Bealady Cemetery.

Bertie (Robert) Stone
Luggacurren, Portlaoise, Laois

Suddenly at Droimnin Nursing Home, Stradbally. Pre-deceased by his wife Kathleen. Loving father of Anna and David.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, son, daughter-in-law Miriam, granddaughters Madi and Lara, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, family circle, friends and neighbours.

Reposing at his son’s home Eircode; R32FF6E on Friday from 2pm until 8pm. Funeral Service on Saturday at the house at 1 pm (All welcome) followed by burial in Cross Hill Cemetery, Castlecomer.

Mary Griffiths (née Loughman)
Davebrook Road, Mississauga and originally from Raheensheara, Rathdowney, Laois

Mary Griffiths (neé Loughman), born 27/10/1927, died13/1/2024. Formerly of Davebrook Road, Mississauga. Died peacefully on January 13 at Chartwell Retirement Residence, Burlington.

Originally from Raheensheara, Rathdowney, Co. Laois, Ireland. Predeceased by her husband Hiram Griffiths, her parents Joe and Ellen Loughman, siblings Michael, Eileen and Rody.

Deeply missed by her nieces Elaine Loughman, Sister Mary Loughman, Ena McKiernan, and nephews Michael, Roy and Jim Loughman. Grandnieces and grand nephews, and extended family. Cousins Mary O’Callaghan and the McGovern, McLaughlin, O’Leary, Sheeran, McManus, Mannion, Nicholson, Endersen and Griffiths families.

Sadly missed by her many friends and neighbors in Mississauga who meant so much to her, with particular gratitude to her close friend and carer Sandra Rose, Dr Kevin Flynn and all the staff at Chartwell Retirement Residence.

Friends may call at the Turner and Porter Neweduk- Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street West, Mississauga Friday, January 19, from 6-8pm.

Charlotte (Lottie) McGuirk (née Tuohy)
Graigavern Drive, Ballybrittas, Laois/Clondalkin, Dublin

Formerly of Clondalkin, Dublin. Peacefully at her residence. Beloved wife of the late Desmond (Dessie) and dear sister of the late Sheila and Derry.

Lottie will be sadly missed by her loving children Joan, David, Bernie and Dermot, grandchildren Amie, Lynda and her partner Dave, Katie, Yvonne, Ethan and Craig, great-grandchildren Jack, Callum, Lucy, Alana, Bella, Caoimhe, Emer, Abigail, and Cora , extended family and friends.

Reposing at her residence in Ballybrittas with Rosary on Thursday evening at 7pm. Removal on Friday morning at 10:30am arriving The Sacred Heart Church, Rath, Ballybrittas (eircode R32 FN44) for Requiem Mass at 11am. Funeral afterwards to Newlands Cross Crematorium for Committal Service at 2pm.

Nancy Ruschitzko (nee Dundon), (Lanahrone Avenue, Corbally, Limerick. Formerly of Portlaoise and past Ladies President of Ballykisteen Golf Club), January, 14th 2024, peacefully, at Milford Care Centre.

Beloved wife of the late Bill. Dearly loved mother of Frank, Mark, Tina and Stephen. Sadly missed by her loving daughter-in-law Finola, Heather and Audrey, son-in-law Dermot, her cherished grandchildren David, Alan, Gareth, Bayleigh, Shaughan, Grace and Jack, sisters Phil and Gemma, brothers Tone and Ben, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. Predeceased by her brother Milo.

Reposing at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, on Wednesday (17th January) from 4.30pm to 6pm. Funeral arriving at St. Nicholas’ Church, Westbury, on Thursday (18th January) for Requiem Mass at 11.30am followed by burial in Castlemungret Cemetery.

David McDonald
Derrydavy, Mountmellick, Laois

David McDonald Derrydavy, Mountmellick, Co. Laois, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the care of the nurses and doctors in Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand.

Sadly missed by his loving partner Flavio Villani and his devastated parents Peter and Elsie. Adored by his sisters Anna, Lizzie and Orla.

His beloved nephews Billy and Jack and niece Lucy. Sadly missed by his bothers – in – laws John Ryan, John Kirwan and Gary Guilfoyle, his aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours and vast circle of friends.
