Laois Camogie unveil new management team ahead of the 2024 season

Camogie

The Laois camogie team will compete in Division 3 of the National League and Premier Junior in the All-Ireland championship in 2024.

And, ahead of those competitions, they have confirmed that they have a brand new management team in place.

Rathdowney native Noel Brennan stepped down after spending the 2023 year in charge and he has been replaced by Pat Collier and Robert Jones.

Collier is from Camross and Jones is a native from Kilcotton – with both previously being members of Laois camogie minor management teams in the past.

They are joined by Rosenalllis native, and former Laois hurler, Declan Conroy and Bernadette Fitzpatrick of Naomh Eamann as selectors.

Former Offaly camogie manager Barry Whelehan has been appointed as the team’s hurling coach.

He, along with his brothers Brian and Simon, played with the Offaly senior hurlers for several years and won All-Ireland club titles with his club Birr.

Trumera’s Paul O’Brien is the strength and conditioning coach while Laura Mahony of The Harps is the nutritionist.

The role of Liaison Officer/Stats is filled by Niamh Bergin of Camross while her clubmate Niall Cuddy, a former Laois minor camogie manager, is in charge of the kit.

Meanwhile, the draw for the All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship has also been made.

Laois have been drawn in Group 2 with Roscommon, Cavan, Louth, Mayo and Limerick.

Group 1 comprises of Tipperary, Armagh, Tyrone, Down and Wicklow.

The top two sides from each group will progress to the All-Ireland semi finals.

The championships will commence on Saturday, May 25 and will culminate in the All-Ireland Premier Junior, Intermediate and Senior Championships in Croke Park on Sunday, August 11.

Before all of that, Laois are competing in Division 3A of the camogie league.

Their first game is on February 24 and they will travel across the border to face Kildare.

They then host Armagh on March 2 before travelling to take on Roscommon on March 9.
